After more than 25 years cutting concrete on the Sunshine Coast, We’ve seen just about every site situation you can imagine. Slabs with unmarked services running through them. Jobs where the gate code wasn’t left with anyone. Work zones were still full of stock and machinery when our team turned up. Each one adds time, and time on a concrete job adds cost.
The good news is that most of it is avoidable. A bit of thought before our team arrives can make the difference between a job that runs like clockwork and one that drags. Here’s what we’d love you to sort out before we get there.
Know what’s under your slab
This is the one we feel most strongly about. Concrete looks solid and simple from the top, but there’s usually a lot going on underneath: reinforcing steel, post-tensioned cables, plumbing, electrical conduits, gas lines, comms. Before our blade goes anywhere near it, we need to know what’s there.
For sites we haven’t worked on before, that means pulling Dial Before You Dig drawings, checking the original plans, or having a service locator mark up the slab in advance. If you’re not sure what’s under there, tell us at booking. It changes how we approach the job, what equipment we bring, and what cut depth is safe. We’d far rather slow down at the planning stage than hit something unexpected on the day.
Mark your cut lines clearly
A clear mark-out is one of the simplest things you can do, and it saves us (and you) a significant amount of time. Spray paint, a chalk line, a marker on timber, anything that shows exactly where the cut needs to go. If there’s any uncertainty, walk the line with our team when we arrive. Five minutes confirming on the ground beats re-cutting because a line moved.
For openings, doorways, drain channels, window penetrations, measure twice, mark once, and check it against the plans before we start.
Sort out access before the day
Our gear is heavy, and it needs to get from the truck to the cut. Before we arrive, think through where we can park, whether there are gates, lifts, or stairs to navigate, and whether the path to the work area is clear and passable.
On commercial sites we work across the Sunshine Coast, Gympie, and North Brisbane, we see access issues come up regularly. Underground car parks with height restrictions. Narrow side gates. Low awnings. Swipe cards that no one remembered to leave. These things are easy to sort in advance and a real headache if they’re not. Let us know at the quote stage. The same goes for site inductions and any PPE requirements specific to your project.
Have water ready and know where the slurry will go
Most of our work is wet-cut. Water keeps the blade cool and brings dust under control, so we need a water source within hose distance, and somewhere sensible for the slurry to drain. If mains water isn’t available on your site, let us know up front. We can bring tanks in, but it changes how we set up.
Power requirements depend on the equipment we’re using. We’ll work that out at the quote stage, which is part of why we like to have a look in person before we start.
Clear the work zone
Anything in or around the cut area needs to be moved or covered before we get there. On building sites, that’s vehicles, tools, materials, and stored stock. In homes, it’s furniture, appliances, floor coverings, and anything fragile within the dust or water zone.
We do everything we can to keep things clean and contained. But nothing beats simply moving things out of the way first. Pets and kids should be kept clear while the blade is running, and it’s usually better for unrelated trades to work elsewhere on site during the cut.
Talk to your other trades early
In our experience, concrete cutting sits right in the middle of the build sequence. The plumber needs the hole cored before pipes go in. The sparkie wants the chase cut before conduit runs. The builder needs the slab open before steel arrives. When those conversations don’t happen early, we end up waiting for other trades or other trades end up waiting for us.
A quick chat, even a group text, sorts this out. If you’re a homeowner managing the renovation yourself, over-communicate on this one. We’re happy to advise on sequencing if you’re not sure where cutting fits in the program.
Have these details ready when you call
We answer enquiries within 24 hours, and we can usually get on site within a few days of quote approval. The more we know upfront, the faster we can turn around your quote and get you on the schedule:
- Site address and any access notes
- What type of cut you need, or a plain description of the job
- Slab thickness and material if you know it
- Whether reinforcement or services may be present
- When you need it done and any hard deadlines
- Photos or sketches if you’ve got them
From the team that knows the Sunshine Coast
We’ve been cutting concrete across the Sunshine Coast for over 25 years. Residential slabs in Caloundra, civil work in Gympie, commercial fit-outs in Maroochydore. We’re fully licensed and insured, professionally fit-tested for respiratory protective equipment, and set up for residential, civil, commercial, and industrial jobs.
When the prep is right, the job goes faster. It’s that simple. Half an hour sorting out access, marking the cut lines, and confirming what’s under your slab can save hours on the day and usually money too.

If you’ve got a job coming up, the best first step is a free on-site quote. Twenty minutes with our team looking at the job in person will tell you everything you need to plan around.
